Activity details

The Department of Justice, under the Kimberley Juvenile Justice Strategy, is working alongside local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to deliver the Ngurra Buru Night Space in Broome, the Youth Connection Night Place in Fitzroy Crossing, the Halls Creek Youth Wellbeing and Justice Program in Halls Creek, and co-design the Kununurra Night Space.

The night spaces offer a temporary physical safe space, outreach services including night patrol service, food provision, next-day family follow-up assessment, advocacy and service coordination for street present young people, steering them away from the criminal justice system.

Night spaces are delivered and managed by local, place based ACCOs working collaboratively with government agencies. They provide a temporary place where at-risk children and young people can go at night to be off the streets, have access to mentors, food and other immediate needs whilst an appropriate drop-off location can be identified.
