The Integrated Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (IPARVAN) Framework and supporting resources provide guidance on the enhancement, development and implementation of system redesign and integrated service responses to violence, abuse and neglect for NSW Health and partner agencies that aim to promote:
- increased service accessibility and an integrated patient journey
- holistic, collaborative care and enhanced service integration
- equitable and comprehensive responses across NSW, particularly addressing context-specific needs for vulnerable clients and families.
Implementation progress update
NSW Health is progressing the VAN Redesign Program which aims to improve prevention and response to violence, abuse, and neglect through a shared understanding of the nature and impacts of clients’ experiences of violence, abuse, and neglect.
Key initiatives and projects to support the achievement of this action include:
- the development of the NSW Health integrated domestic and family violence psychosocial, medical, and forensic crisis response model
- implementation of the NSW Health Aboriginal Family Wellbeing Strategy in 2025
- implementation of the NSW Health Integrated Trauma Informed Care Framework
- roll out and enhancement of the Adult Survivor Program, which will focus on local integrated governance and partnerships across violence, abuse and neglect, mental health, alcohol and other drugs and Aboriginal health directorates and services.
These activities and other work underway at the local and statewide level to further increase integration across the health system will be supported by the employment of the Statewide Aboriginal Clinical Advisor role, to work in collaboration with the Statewide Violence, Abuse and Neglect Senior Clinical Advisor to lead integrated approaches to addressing violence, abuse and neglect, mental health, alcohol and other drugs and Aboriginal health determinants in a holistic culturally healing way.
