Activity details
Support families impacted by violence and at risk of engaging in the child protection system, through delivery of seven place-based, trauma-aware and culturally responsive healing programs aimed at early intervention and recovery, and supporting families.
Implementation progress update
The Australian Government committed $23.2 million over 5 years from 2023–24 to expand the Healing For Families program. Seven First Nations communities are working with government to find the best way to run place-based, culturally-safe, healing-informed and trauma-aware healing programs. These programs will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to heal and recover from the impacts of domestic and family violence and engagement with the child protection system. The 7 sites are Aurukun (QLD), Bidyadanga (WA), Coffs Harbour (NSW), Ngukurr and Numbulwar (NT), Port Augusta (SA), Perth (WA) and Tasmania. Once programs are co-designed and service delivery contracts are awarded, services will run until 30 June 2028.
