Implementation progress update
Strong governance is essential to effectively coordinate across all levels of government, the non-government sector and the wider community to drive real and sustained progress in ending gender-based violence.
The Department of Social Services lead a review of existing governance arrangements to guide the implementation of the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032, and its action plan. A stakeholder consultation paper was circulated to stakeholders in May 2025, including the Our Ways - Strong Ways – Our Voices Steering Committee. A special meeting was convened in June 2025 to discuss the proposed arrangements in detail.
The final arrangements will be driven by the principle that all decisions must consider the impact on First Nations peoples.
Dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander governance arrangements will be developed as part of Our Ways – Strong Ways – Our Voices: National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Plan to End Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (Our Ways).
