The First Nations Justice Office (FNJO) was established to address the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland’s criminal justice system and reduce incaceration rates.
Implementation progress update
The First Nations Justice Office (FNJO) was established in 2023 in response to a recommendation of the Women's Safety and Justice Taskforce’s first report, Hear her voice – Report One.
FNJO priorities are:
- to address the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the criminal justice system
- by 2031, to reduce incarceration rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults by at least 15% and young people by at least 30%.
