Activity details

The Western Australian Government is working collaboratively across agencies to finalise the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Strategy (the Strategy) and accompanying implementation plan for release. The Strategy will take a whole-of-government approach to preventing and addressing the impact of sexual violence in the community and will consider the full continuum of sexual violence, including sexual harassment, abuse and threats. It will also consider the needs of all victims – including those who are male, female and gender diverse. The draft Strategy notes the disproportionate rates of sexual violence experienced by Aboriginal women and includes self-determination as a guiding principle.

Implementation progress update

Together the Office of the Commissioner for Victims of Crime and the Department of Communities are leading the development of Western Australia’s first Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Strategy. Development of the strategy has been informed by findings from a state-wide consultation process in late 2023. For more information see Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Strategy 2025–2035.
