Activity details
The Justice Aboriginal Family Safety Strategy (Justice AFSS) aims to respond to the needs of Aboriginal families experiencing family violence.
The Justice AFSS is continuing in partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, the Aboriginal Family Legal Services WA, Tjallara Consulting Pty Ltd and a multi-agency Stakeholder Reference Group. The Justice AFSS will reinforce the need for Aboriginal led, holistic responses to Aboriginal family safety and wellbeing.
Implementation progress update
A targeted consultation process was conducted, which included yarning circles with current and former prisoners, as well as youth in detention. This engagement provided insights into their experiences with the system while in the community, in the Department of Justice’s (department) facilities, and in transition between the two. The findings from this consultation are now being used to finalise the Justice AFSS and to develop specific training targeted at department staff who are identified as family and domestic violence first responders.
