Activity details
The ACT Government provides dedicated supports to detainees living with a disability.
Implementation progress update
The ACT Corrective Services Supports & Interventions Unit (SIU) works with all detainees living with a disability, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander detainees. Supports include functional and cognitive capacity assessments and the ongoing provision of disability liaison and complex case coordination. This includes recommendations for reasonable adjustments, advocacy and assisted care services for detainees with complex presentations, individual therapeutic interventions and transition planning. The SIU also provides assisted care in the Assisted Care Unit (ACU) within the Alexander Maconochie Centre. The ACU provides a scheduled, purposeful structured day and multi-model therapies and other assistance which promotes meaningful activities of daily living and increased independence.
