Activity details

Establish community networks in 5 locations to improve service integration across the family safety sector including through mapping, gap analysis and the development of community plans in each location.

Implementation progress update

The Australian Government provided $3.2 million over 2 years (2023–24 to 2025–26) to establish 5 place-based community networks in Aurukun (QLD), Bidyadanga (WA), Menindee (NSW), Maningrida (NT), and Coober Pedy (SA). Each network mapped the local family safety sector and co-designed a community plan outlining priorities, aspirations, and actions. The project concluded on 31 August 2025.

Key outcomes included:

  • Improved access for First Nations women, children, and families to connected, holistic, community-led, culturally safe, and trauma-aware family safety services.
  • Development of an evidence base (including gap analysis and duplication) strengthened by better access to local data, enabling communities to seek tailored investment in family safety services.
  • Increased government focus on transforming ways of working and delivering services in genuine partnership with First Nations organisations and communities.
