Health services are guided by the Disability Action and Inclusion Plan 2022-2025, which aims to improve health services for people with disability.

Implementation progress update

Canberra Health Services' (CHS) Disability Action and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2022-2025 guides the way the organisation addresses barriers, promotes inclusivity, and improves health services for people with disability.

Under Focus Area 1. Our consumers, their families and carers, a key priority is for CHS to provide people-centred care that considers the individual needs of people with disability, their carers and families. Actions under this priority underpin current work to develop a process for asking about disability and reasonable adjustments. Further actions outlined in the DAIP relate to ongoing improvement to the Digital Health Record to allow identification of intersectional requirements including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A representative of the Aboriginal Liaison Officer workforce is a member of the CHS DAIP Implementation Steering Group, which monitors and drives progress on DAIP actions. As part of CHS DAIP implementation, all CHS team members have access to introductory eLearning targeted at improving the capacity of health professionals when engaging with people with disability and may attend Diversity and Inclusion Training Days.
