Activity details
NSW Health is providing funding to the Justice Health Forensic Mental Health Network (JHFMHN) to improve supports available for victim-survivors of sexual assault and address barriers to access for those in prison.
Implementation progress update
The funding will include a new, ongoing full-time equivalent Clinical Coordinator position located in JHFMHN settings to develop capacity of staff and health services to work with adult survivors of child sexual abuse who are incarcerated. Progress has been made in identifying service needs and gaps within JHFMHN, including the development of business rules to address current challenges in data collection and documentation. In addition, efforts to strengthen service coordination with NSW Health services are ongoing.
JHFMHN are also receiving funding for a Clincial Nurse Consultant - Violence, Abuse and Neglect under the NSW Government's $53 million Medical and Forensic Workforce Plan Enhancement Funding. This position will provide leadership and capacity building to improve medical and nursing responses to violence, abuse and neglect within the justice system. This includes providing, or supporting other network staff to provide, trauma-informed non-acute and follow up health services for victims of violence, abuse and neglect responding to relevant health concerns (e.g. sexual health, injury treatment follow-up or referral) and supporting health care navigation.
