Appointment of 3 Aboriginal Witness Assistance Officers in South Australia's Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP)
Implementation progress update
In November 2024, ODPP employed 3 Aboriginal Witness Assistance Officers. These new identified roles have been working with the Witness Assistance Team (WAT) and legal staff to provide culturally appropriate support for Aboriginal victims and witnesses involved in ODPP matters, including children and victims of family violence.
In collaboration with the WAT Manager and Circuit Manager, the new roles are also reviewing and updating ODPP processes which relate to working with Aboriginal victims and witnesses, including in remote communities. The roles are providing valuable support to the prosecution process.
