The Australian Government spends more than $6 billion every year to improve housing and homelessness outcomes. This includes providing the states and territories with more than $1.5 billion a year through the National Housing and Homelessness Agreement (NHHA). The Australian Government is also providing around $4.6 billion in Commonwealth Rent Assistance (CRA), for some 1.3 million individuals and families. Although significant funding is provided by the Australian Government, the primary responsibility for housing assistance, including public housing, rests with state and territory governments.

Information on housing assistance provided by housing authorities in each state and territory can be accessed via the websites or telephone numbers below. Please note that calls made from mobile phones may incur additional costs.
