Safe and Supported consultation

The best interests of the child are at the centre of Safe and Supported: the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2021 - 2031 (Safe and Supported) and its Action Plans. Everyone involved is committed to ongoing meaningful engagement with children, young people, parents, carers and communities.

Active consultations

There are currently no consultations open.

Past consultations

A number of consultations took place to inform Safe and Supported and the first Action Plans. Further consultations will take place over the life of Safe and Supported.

These consultations helped to identify how to better support vulnerable children and young people. They highlighted that how we work together to keep children safe and achieve outcomes is just as important as what we do.

National Children’s Commissioner

in 2021, Ms Anne Hollonds, The National Children’s Commissioner, talked with children, young people and families to make sure their experiences and voices informed the first Action Plans.

The National Children’s Commissioner’s report, Keeping kids safe and well: your voices, outlines the importance of a well-rounded response for children and families engaged in child protection systems.

Online consultation

The Department of Social Services (the department) ran an online consultation in June and July 2021 to support the development of the first Action Plans.

SNAICC – National Voice for Our Children (SNAICC)

SNAICC national consultations guided the co-design of Safe and Supported in early 2021. The consultations created a safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to share their thoughts on the big issues for their children.
