Community-driven Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander disability research program ‘Living Our Ways’

The First Peoples Disability Network will use a culturally-appropriate co-production approach to establish a qualitative knowledge base of disability from an Indigenous perspective. This research will address gaps in both research content and community-compatible research methods.

The research will collate and analyse narratives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with lived experience of disability to better understand the implications for disability data, research and policy development.

The primary outcome is a research agenda for undertaking disability research by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The project will describe a structural frame for conducting research with the First Peoples disability community, and identify priorities for further research as identified through consultation narrative.
