At the Disability Reform Ministers’ meeting on 4 December 2020, disability ministers’ endorsed the Statement of Continued Commitment to the National Disability Strategy 2010-2020 (the Strategy).

The current National Disability Strategy’s term is due to expire at the end of the 2020 calendar year. Development of a new disability strategy is well underway, however public consultations with people with disability, their families and supporters was deferred due to COVID-19 to a time when they could be held safely.  As a result the new National Disability Strategy will now be released in 2021.

The statement confirms the Australian Government and state, territory and local governments remain committed to the current Strategy, and will continue their efforts and uphold the rights of people with disability while a new disability strategy is being finalised.
