On 21 March 2022, the Minister for Families and Social Services, Senator the Honourable Anne Ruston, officially launched the RecruitAble pilot at Coles Head Office in Melbourne.

The RecruitAble pilot is designed and delivered by people with disability. It is one of the first initiatives under Employ My Ability – the Disability Employment Strategy. It aims to challenge bias and misconceptions around recruitment of people with disability. It also demonstrates how existing mainstream recruitment processes can become more inclusive.

In Australia, the unemployment rate for people with disability is double that of people without disability. The gap in labour force participation is over 30 per cent – RecruitAble aims to change this!

Minister Ruston said, ‘having a stable job is an absolute game changer in everyone’s life and that shouldn’t be any different for someone who has a disability.’

The Australian Government funds the RecruitAble pilot. It will be delivered in partnership by:

  • Randstad Australia, a national recruitment agency
  • Get Skilled Access, an organisation focused on building accessible workplace cultures.

The launch event was a huge success. Coverage of the event appeared on media outlets nationwide such as ABC News, News.com and Sydney Morning Herald.

Dylan Alcott AO said, ’people with disability deserve to use mainstream recruitment services to find jobs but we frequently hear the current system is not accessible or inclusive.’

With the new website going live, people with disability can now express their interest in working with one of the 6 participating employers.

Employers taking part in the pilot include:

  • Coles
  • Tennis Australia
  • RACQ
  • Randstad
  • Bendigo Bank
  • Hydro Tasmania.

The website hosts a range of resources for people with disability looking for work related to applying for jobs, creating a personal brand, interviewing and many more.
