Ending gender-based violence

Our department is responsible for designing and implementing national programs and initiatives, as well as building the evidence base, in relation to women and children’s safety. Our activity supports the vision of the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 (the National Plan), to end gender-based violence in one generation.

Violence against women is one of the most serious causes and consequences of inequality and can lead to poverty and disadvantage. Through the National Plan, our department continually works across government and with the community to advance gender equality, with the aim to improve the status and wellbeing of Australian women and children.
