Settlement Services

The Department of Social Services works to improve the lifetime wellbeing of migrants and refugees settling in Australia by responding to their specific needs, encouraging their independence and participation in the Australian community. We support a productive, harmonious and diverse society for all Australians.

The Home Affairs Portfolio was established in December 2017. As a result of the supporting Machinery of Government changes, the multicultural affairs policy function has moved to the Department of Home Affairs. Details relating to these functions have been moved from this website to the Department of Home Affairs.
