For Children and Young People in the Child Protection System

1. Aim of publication

This report was commissioned by the Department of Social Services (the then FaHCSIA) on behalf of the Standing Council on Community and Disability Services Advisory Council in order to provide analysis of what health assessments and interventions are available for children and young people in state and territory child protection systems, and an examination of effective mechanisms to track their health histories.

2. Who is it for?

This report is for government policy makers at all levels, service providers and interested stakeholders.

3. What does it cover?

This report provides options for national consideration to ensure ongoing and substantive health assessments and interventions, and effective mechanisms are in place to track health histories. The report was informed by a comprehensive review of health assessments in Australia and consultation feedback from non-government and government stakeholders.
