Education Outreach

A school-based program to support the successful integration of young people in mainstream schools. Not available for children enrolled in Aspect schools as this service is provided through the Aspect school program.

 

Educational Outreach will engage in direct student interaction and support implementing ASD specific strategies and techniques for the school and home environment. This will be followed by a case conference with parents and teachers. A report on ASD specific strategies will be given to the parents and a copy to the school. The strategies will support all of the needs of the student including sensory, social, communication, academic and behaviour.

The program comprises of 2 visits:

Visit 1 - Initial intensive consultation

Direct student interaction and support implementing ASD specific strategies and techniques. 1 hour Case Conference with parents and teachers. Provision of ASD specific educational strategies report, including very detailed individual ASD specific strategies for the student. The strategies are aimed to support all of the needs of the student including sensory, social, communication, academic and behaviour.

Visit 2 - Review consultation

Direct student interaction and support implementing ASD specific strategies and techniques.

Review of current strategies.

Review of ASD specific strategies report to support IEP development.

An assessment of autism related impairments (social skills, communication, behaviour) & adaptive functioning (daily living skills).

An assessment of current intellectual strengths and weaknesses (IQ test) and adaptive functioning (daily living skills).

Evaluation and Intervention Planning

The comprehensive evaluation of a child’s functioning across multiple domains. The purpose of the evaluation is to provide specific information about the child in order to guide and generate an individualised intervention and transition plan.
