This project supports and connects communities in the Wakool Shire and surrounding region of the NSW Riverina particularly those affected by natural disaster or other adverse circumstances. The project facilitates programs and activities that respond to community needs, build community resilience, develop stronger social networks, and link families with existing support networks. Regular events provide support for volunteers already working in the local communities.

The project conducts a mentoring program to support socially disadvantaged men. The project provides activities and opportunities to increase social interaction and reduce isolation in the Jervis Bay region.

Gloucester Homework Centre


The project assists children and young people in Gloucester with homework and assessments, as well as extending their knowledge base academically through one‑on‑one tutoring. The project helps to build confidence and self-esteem through positive reinforcement, non-academic activities and holiday programs. There is also an Indigenous community program stream delivered by an Indigenous tutor.

The project creates a culture of enterprise among young people in the Byron region by developing their knowledge, skills, and community connections in the development of small businesses and community projects. The project connects young people with volunteers, mentors and local business owners who provide hands‑on training and support in the development of local enterprises.

The Shed Project


The project offers strategies to address social disadvantage and assists disadvantaged men in Windale and the wider Lake Macquarie region through the provision of social and community activities at The Shed. Activities aim to enhance the health and wellbeing of men who are unemployed, retired, young offenders or early school leavers. The project also prepares men for further education, training or employment.

Country Mateship - Narromine, Parkes, Forbes


This project engages, trains and supports community volunteers to provide support and build resilience among farming and other families in the rural communities of Parkes, Forbes, Narromine, Bogan, Lachlan and Warren local government areas. There is a specific focus on smaller towns and localities that are most affected by drought, flood, and other natural disasters, or that have fewer services and limited access to regular community services.

The project develops and runs a number of parent and youth programs to address anti‑social behaviour in the La Perouse community. The project also helps address school absenteeism and the lack of family support for young Indigenous people aged 10 to 24.

Shed for Men Helping Each Other


The project provides a welcoming, non‑threatening facility with a range of activities for local men in Griffith. The project creates a sense of community and reduces isolation by enabling participants to share their experiences. Participants mentor and support people with disabilities, the unemployed and students who find it difficult to stay focused at school.

The project provides activities for disadvantaged young people in the Wentworth local government area to address a lack of recreational and social opportunities in Dareton and Wentworth. The project offers opportunities for the young people to participate in community activities and sporting events.

Inspire Foundation

Act Now


The project supports participants aged 14‑25 from disadvantaged communities to develop skills to improve their own lives and better support their communities. Participants are also linked to a wider audience through Inspire’s website and other relevant social networking sites. Social networking technology is used to support place‑based responses to community disadvantage as well as complementing Inspire’s focus on mental health issues affecting young people.

The project runs an after‑school tennis club in Doonside for Indigenous boys in Years 4‑6, with the aim to improve their school attendance and decrease the high rates of school absenteeism. The project also builds effective relationships between parents and children at home and at school.

The project provides young people in Campbelltown with access to trained mentors, who assist them to find employment. Mentors provide practical guidance to young people who lack exposure to experienced role models to plan for, gain and retain employment.

The project supports people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in the Liverpool area that have a history of trauma. The project conducts activities to address barriers that affect clients and their relationships with the local and broader society.

Maronite Community and Social Services

Friends of Friends


The project provides mentoring and support services for disadvantaged Lebanese Maronite community members in the Parramatta area. Assistance with mental health related issues, language problems, and cultural awareness is provided to community members. Mentors are matched with clients from the Maronite Family and Adult Counselling Service and are supported with ongoing supervision via email, phone and face-to-face contact.

Future Voices of Bowraville


The project supports the Miimi Mothers Centre which provides centralised coordination and consolidation of services for the town of Bowraville. The Centre runs a range of services which focus on the educational, cultural and social needs of the local Indigenous community identified in the Bowraville Community Plans. The project aims to secure the future of the Centre and build the capacity of Indigenous residents by supporting and developing community enterprises.

Pottsville Beach Neighbourhood Centre Coordination


This project coordinates family and community support activities in the Pottsville area of the Tweed Coast to meet the social, cultural, educational and welfare needs of local residents. The project benefits young children and their families, young parents, people seeking employment, people on income support, seniors, families and people affected by disability. The project also delivers a volunteer program which provides on‑the‑job training to unemployed community members. Participants develop the skills and self‑confidence to transition to paid employment or to seek further education.

The project primarily aims to support, empower and improve the wellbeing of children and young people under 18 in Central Western NSW region who have a parent engaged in the criminal justice system. The project supports children and young people through education support within schools, a one‑on‑one mentoring program, and through the facilitation of peer support group outings. The families with an imprisoned parent are supported to become active members of the community and avoid family breakdown through holistic case planning and management.

The project provides a youth mentoring program that supports young people aged 12‑16 in Coonamble to re‑engage with education and training. The project trains community volunteers to act as mentors and to provide the young people with a positive role model to address anti‑social behaviour, youth violence, underage drinking and drug use.

Shoalhaven Youth Volunteering Initiative


The project increases volunteering in the Shoalhaven area by targeting up to 120 Indigenous and non‑Indigenous students from local high schools. The project supports the students to volunteer with vital community services, including the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, to build better life skills and social capacity. As well as supporting the future of these essential services, the project increases the participation of young people in their community and builds community connectedness.

Support workers deliver courses and provide support, advocacy and referrals. Access to support services is through a coordinated model of service delivery.

Animation Project (Campbelltown)


The project assists residents in Campbelltown housing estates to develop action plans and activities that address local needs and priorities. Community priorities are determined through consultation with the community and with other relevant stakeholders. The project provides assistance and support in the establishment of community activities that focus on developing community capacity to conduct these independently. Residents are provided with formal leadership and volunteer training to develop problem‑solving and negotiation skills, as well as hands-on experience in planning, implementing and evaluating community action.

The project assists people in and around Airds to gain the knowledge and skills they need to develop a new small business or convert a hobby or skill into a new income stream. Workshops and events encourage residents to move beyond social, economic and personal barriers to identify new opportunities and develop greater self-reliance.

Youth Insearch Foundation Inc

Youth Support Project


The project will support 1300 young people annually throughout New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. Youth Insearch will organise 26 educational camps and activities annually that are designed to assist with the development of leadership skills and social networks. The camps will also address issues of drug and alcohol abuse, family conflict and potential homelessness, physical and sexual abuse, and self‑harm. Coordinators in six regional locations maintain service networks and partnerships to support the Youth Insearch program and facilitate pre‑ and post‑camp support for the participants.

Y Become a Leader, Your Skills, Your Experience, Your Life


The Project develops the skills, self-esteem and confidence of culturally and linguistically diverse and Indigenous participants in the Campbelltown area to help them reach their full potential. The project aims to give these people the relevant skills and knowledge to take on community leadership roles. The project develops these leadership skills through training/workshops covering interpersonal relations, public speaking, group dynamics, committee roles, networking and negotiating financial literacy/awareness, accessing volunteer and vocational opportunities, and positive adult role modelling.
