The development of Carer Support Centres
As part of the Aged Care Reforms the Government has committed to establish new Carer Support Centres from 1 July 2014.
Carer Support Centres will be established as the ‘place to go’ for carers and will focus on preventative assistance to carers to sustain carers in their caring role and reduce the reliance on emergency respite. Carer Support Centres will also provide carer specific information, education and training, counselling, access to emergency respite and referral to other services.
Consultations with service providers, governments, peak bodies and consumer representatives were held in all capital cities and some regional centres throughout June 2013.
The consultations provided the opportunity for participants to contribute their knowledge and expertise to inform the development of business and service delivery model options for Carer Support Centres.
