The Australian Capital Territory commits to join the national Redress Scheme for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse

On 19 March 2018, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) committed to join the Redress Scheme for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse. ACT now joins Victoria, New South Wales and the Commonwealth in providing redress under the Scheme when it commences.

The Redress Scheme will start on 1 July 2018, subject to the passage of legislation, and offer access to psychological counselling, a direct personal response from the responsible institution and a monetary payment.

Support services are available to assist people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse. People can contact these support services, provided as part of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
