Carer Gateway launched to help carers

A carer and her son

On 14 December 2015, Assistant Minister for Social Services, Alan Tudge announced the commencement of a new service to assist carers. Carer Gateway will make it easier for carers to find information, practical advice and services to support them in their caring role.

Carer Gateway guides carers to the support and resources they need through a website, phone service and service finder.

Up to now, carers have been searching for services through a number of often confusing pathways across the disability, community mental health and aged care sectors.

With the interactive service finder, carers can now locate and connect with their nearest support services.

Information is available for all carers, including those who care for someone with a disability, chronic illness, mental health illness or frailty due to age.

Carers can visit carergateway.gov.au anytime, or call the professional, Australian based team for advice on 1800 422 737, from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

More information on Carer Gateway is available on the DSS website.
