It was commissioned by the Department and undertaken by the Australian Centre for Corporate Public Affairs. This was an in-depth study of large businesses in Australia and their community involvement strategies. Corporations included Rio Tinto, Lend Lease, IBM, Ansett, Westpac and Ford. The project was funded by the Department and carried out by the Australian Centre for Corporate Public Affairs with the Business Council of Australia.

Giving Australia: Research on Philanthropy in Australia

This was the most comprehensive survey ever of the contributions made in money and time by Australian individuals and businesses with more than 10,000 people contributing to the quantitative and qualitative research.

The project was coordinated by the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) in cooperation with the Queensland University of Technology Centre of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies; University of Technology, Sydney, Centre for Australian Community Organisations and Management; Roy Morgan Research; McNair Ingenuity Research Pty Ltd; and the Fundraising Institute of Australia.

  • Giving and Volunteering Report
    The Individual and Household Survey was a national household survey of approximately 6,200 respondents. The University of Technology, Sydney, Centre for Australian Community Organisations and Management (CACOM) managed the survey development and analysis while Roy Morgan Research undertook the survey work. A range of questions on individual and household giving and volunteering was completed.
  • Survey of Business
    Designed to collect information on donations, sponsorship and community business projects. Conducted by McNair Ingenuity Research.
  • Strengthening Nonprofit Organisations Survey Report
    Assessed the fundraising and development capacity of nonprofit organisations, as well as the resources and supports available and their uptake. The University of Technology, Sydney CACOM team, with support and input from the Australian Council of Social Service and Fundraising Institute developed the survey. CACOM worked with Orfeus Research during the questionnaire design and analysis.
  • Report on Qualitative Research
    Explored attitudes and motivational factors toward giving. The Queensland University of Technology Centre of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies was responsible for the organisation, conduct and analysis of focus groups and in-depth interviews.
