Australian Government Certificate of Appreciation for Volunteers

Volunteers play a critical role in helping shape Australia and building stronger and more resilient communities and supporting individual participation in community life.

To help recognise this very important contribution, the Australia Government Certificate of Appreciation for Volunteers has been developed for use by Members of Parliament.

Appreciation for Volunteers certificate

The certificate provides an effective way to formally acknowledge the efforts of outstanding and well-deserving volunteers, and can be used by Members of Parliament at their discretion throughout the year, or aligned with commemorative events such as National Volunteer Week or International Volunteer Day.

The following qualities are examples of important considerations when identifying individuals or teams to be awarded the certificate:

  • The volunteers are widely recognised within the community for their significant volunteering contribution, in both time and effort.
  • The volunteer’s or volunteers’ contribution has made a lasting impact on the community.
  • The volunteers are positive role models and set a good example for other volunteers in the community.
  • The volunteers are inspirational, mentors, share their experiences and knowledge, and encourage others to volunteer.

Further information about the certificate is available from the department by emailing volunteering@dss.gov.au.
