Civil Society National Centre for Excellence

29 Jan 2014 - 09:00

The Australian Government has committed to abolishing the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission as part of its agenda to reduce red tape and establish a National Centre for Excellence, to represent the interests of charities and not-for-profit agencies. The National Centre for Excellence (NCE) will support innovation, help to build capacity of the sector, provide education and training and work to reduce reporting and regulation with the civil sector.

The NCE will support the range of organisations that make up civil society and encompass the full diversity of the not-for-profit sector, from large national organisations to small local community groups.

The role of charities and not-for-profit (NFP) organisations in our community is important and the Government believes that supporting the sector’s ability to self-manage allows organisations to focus more on their work in the community.
