Austria

Federal Ministry for Labor, Social Affairs, and Consumer Protection and the Federal Ministry of Finance provide general supervision.
Federation of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions, composed of self-governing pension institutions with elected representatives of insured persons and employers, coordinates the program.
Pension Insurance Institution administers 85% of all pensions. Sickness funds collect contributions and transfer them to pension insurance institutions and maintain contribution records for individual workers.

Belgium

National Social Security Office collects contributions.
National Pensions Office administers old-age and survivor pensions and is responsible for the financial management of the program.
National Sickness and Invalidity Insurance Institute administers disability benefits.

Canada

Employment and Social Development Canada through district and local offices, administers the universal, social insurance (CPP), and social assistance programs.
Canada Revenue Agency collects contributions for the social insurance (CPP) program.

Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs provides general supervision and is responsible for policy development for all areas of social security except health insurance.
Czech Social Security Administration collects and administers contributions, and delivers benefits for the social insurance program through its central administration and 77 district administrations.
Labor offices administer the funeral grant.

Denmark

Ministry of Employment provides general supervision and national administration of the universal program.
Danish Financial Supervisory Authority supervises the universal program.
Labor Market Supplementary Pension Institution, an independent institution headed by a bipartite board of directors, administers and collects contributions for the social insurance program.

Estonia

Universal, social insurance, and social assistance

Ministry of Social Affairs is responsible for general management and supervision.

Social Insurance Board is responsible for overall planning and coordination.
Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund administers the work ability allowance (since July 1, 2016).
Tax and Customs Office collects contributions.
Local governments pay the funeral grant.

Mandatory individual account

Ministry of Finance supervises the Financial Supervisory Authority and the Registrar of the Estonian Central Register of Securities.
Financial Supervisory Authority supervises financial services providers, including pension management companies and life insurance companies.

New Zealand

Norway

Ministry of Health and Care Services, Ministry of Children and Equality, and Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs provide general supervision.
Norwegian Labor and Welfare Administration (NAV) administers the programs nationally. NAV Local Services administer the programs locally.
The local tax office in each municipality normally collects contributions.
The Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway provides general supervision of the mandatory occupational pension program. Registered occupational pension funds administer their own mandatory occupational pension programs.

Social Insurance Institution collects contributions and administers the social insurance and NDC programs.
Polish Financial Supervision Authority supervises pension fund management companies. Individual pension fund management companies administer individual accounts.

Portugal

Ministry of Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security provides general supervision through the State Secretariat for Social Security.
Social Security Institute administers the program through the National Pension Center.
Social Security Financial Management Institute collects and manages contributions.

Federal Social Insurance Office supervises implementation of legislation.
Decentralized network of cantonal, industrial, and federal compensation funds collect and record contributions and pay pensions.
Central Compensation Office maintains a register of all insured persons and pensioners.
Mandatory occupational pension Regional authorities provide direct supervision.
The High Commission for the Supervision of Occupational Pensions supervises the regional authorities.
Around 1,648 (2016) registered occupational pension institutes administer the program.

United Kingdom

Pension Service of the Department for Work and Pensions administers the state pension system and provides services and support to pensioners.
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs administers the National Insurance contribution system.
Jobcentre Plus of the Department for Work and Pensions administers benefits for people of working age and helps them find work.

United States of America

Social Security Administration, an independent agency within the executive branch of government, administers the programs through regional program centers, district offices, and branch offices.
Treasury Department supervises the collection of Social Security taxes through the Internal Revenue Service and supervises the payment of benefits and the management of funds.
