This report presents the findings and recommendations of the Aboriginal Land Commissioner following an inquiry into the Timber Creek Land Claim (Application No. 58), a traditional land claim application submitted by the Northern Land Council under section 50(1)(a) of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 on 28 July 1981.
The report was provided to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and the Administrator of the Northern Territory on 19 April 1985.
The land originally subject to claim was subsequently amended by the Northern Land Council and the inquiry by the Aboriginal Land Commissioner involved an area then known as the Timber Creek Commonage Reserve together with the southern bank of the Victoria River where it immediately adjoined the Reserve.
In the amended applications lodged by the Northern Land Council the claim area was expressly defined so as to exclude the nearby township of Timber Creek and it was treated as excluded throughout the inquiry by the Aboriginal Land Commissioner.
