This report presents the findings and recommendations of the Aboriginal Land Commissioner following an inquiry into the Anmatjirra and Alyawawarra (Utopia Pastoral Lease) Land Claim (Application No. 21), a traditional land claim application submitted by the Central Land Council under section 50(1)(a) of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 on 20 November 1978.
The report was provided to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and the Administrator of the Northern Territory on 30 May 1980.
The land subject to claim was alienated Crown land, described as Pastoral Lease No. 637 (Utopia Station), comprising an area of 1,963 square kilometres and located approximately 200 kilometres north-east of Alice Springs. A small area of adjoining land known as Northern Territory Portion 1497 also formed part of the land originally subject to claim.
The original claim was subsequently amended to include the Sandover Stock Route which runs through the lease.
