The National Partnership Agreement on Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory gives effect to the Australian and Northern Territory Government’s commitment to work with Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory. It aims to support Aboriginal people, particularly in remote communities, to live strong, independent lives, where communities, families and children are safe and healthy.
Signed by the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, the National Partnership Agreement outlines the nine supporting Implementation Plans which set out funding and commitments for each of the nine specific measures and two further Schedules that set out Aboriginal employment targets and Stronger Futures funding.
Schedule K sets out the estimated distribution of funding for the Stronger Futures package as at
5 June 2013, comprising the maximum Commonwealth contribution to the Northern Territory agreed in individual Implementation Plans, and Commonwealth Own-Purpose Expenses (COPE). It also includes the Northern Territory’s contribution agreed in those Implementation Plans.
National Partnership Payments (NPP) to the Northern Territory and Commonwealth Own-Purpose Expenses are indexed. Schedule K will be updated over the life of the NP to reflect indexation updates and any agreed amendments to the maximum financial contributions in each Implementation Plans.
The Schedule K – Summary of payments is posted on the Federal Financial Relations website as a commitment to accountability on the part of both governments.
