Thank you to all who provided feedback on the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory: Implementation Plan for Alcohol Management Plan Community Fund. We have taken your views into account and the plan has now been finalised.
Through the Stronger Futures legislation and funding, the Australian Government is responding to calls to address the serious effects that alcohol is having on outcomes for Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory.
Over time the Australian Government wants to move to a more sustainable approach to managing alcohol issues that meets the needs of people in communities in their efforts to reduce alcohol-related harm locally. That is why the Australian Government has strengthened alcohol management planning processes through the introduction of minimum standards which are focussed on harm reduction.
Community alcohol management planning is also being supported through the Alcohol Management Plan Community Fund which is a small, targeted fund for one-off, short term projects. The Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory: Implementation Approach for the Alcohol Management Plan Community Fund explains broadly how the community fund is intended to contribute to achieving the objective of enabling special measures to reduce alcohol-related harm to Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory over the next ten years.
