Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory Aboriginal Workforce Development Strategy

The Australian and Northern Territory governments are preparing an Aboriginal Workforce Development Strategy as part of the National Partnership Agreement on Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory  (National Partnership).

Organisations delivering programs and services under the National Partnership are expected to employ local Aboriginal people wherever possible, and individual Aboriginal employment targets and goals have been set by Australian and Northern Territory Government agencies across a range of Stronger Futures elements.

Engagement

A draft Strategy was released in late June 2013 for public comment. Feedback on the draft was sought from 170 organisations and 28 written submissions were received.

Face-to-face consultations were held in July with 87 stakeholders, and NT Government representatives, in Darwin, Nhulunbuy, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.

Based on these discussions and the feedback received, the Strategy will be finalised along with an Action Plan that will outline the practical steps that can be taken to implement the Strategy. A summary of feedback and the final version of the Strategy and Action Plan will be made available once finalised.
