The Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Amendment Act 2006 included the requirement for an independent review of the operation of Part IV of the Land Rights Act as soon as practicable after the fifth anniversary of the amendments coming into operation on 1 July 2007. Minister Macklin requested the Aboriginal Land Commissioner, the Hon Justice John Mansfield AM, conduct the review.
The Aboriginal Land Commissioner provided the report on the review to Minister Macklin on 28 March 2013.
The report was tabled in Parliament on 20 June 2013.
The Australian Government will undertake targeted consultations with key sectoral stakeholders on the report’s recommendations.
