Application to establish a Katherine Regional Land Council
On 25 January 2011 an application to establish the Katherine Regional Land Council was submitted to Minister Macklin under section 21(A) of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. Minister Macklin referred the application for enquiry to the former Aboriginal Land Commissioner, the Hon Justice Howard Olney AM QC.
Aboriginals Benefit Account (ABA)
The Aboriginals Benefit Account (ABA) contributes to the recognition and protection of land rights by effective and efficient administration of royalty equivalent monies generated from mining on Aboriginal land in the Northern Territory.

This review will look at the role and functions of NTRBs and NTSPs to ensure that they continue to meet the evolving needs of the system, and particularly the needs of native title holders after claims have been resolved.

The Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Amendment Act 2006 included the requirement for an independent review of the operation of Part IV of the Land Rights Act as soon as practicable after the fifth anniversary of the amendments coming into operation.
