David Cant is the Chief Executive Officer of the Brisbane Housing Company (BHC) the largest “not for dividend” affordable housing provider in Queensland.
Working as a consultant to the Queensland State Government David led the team that created the BHC in 2000-2001. BHC, with over 1000 completed homes and a development pipeline of 500 dwellings, enjoys a reputation for award winning design, business innovation and high quality services. David has provided advice to many organizations across Australia seeking to replicate the success of BHC.
David’s career, extending over 40 years, has been committed to provision of housing for those in housing need and on low incomes. David came to Queensland from the UK in 2000 after a number of years as CEO of New Islington Housing Association, a charity operating in inner London with a portfolio of 6000 homes.
At earlier stages of this career, David performed high level management roles within a “not for dividend” housing organization. David also worked at a senior level in the Housing Corporation, the government agency in England with responsibility for funding and supervising the affordable housing sector. David was a board member of Swale Housing Association and Chair of Clapton Community Housing Trust.
David has a longstanding interest in education about the built environment and was Chair of the Hackney Building Exploratory.
David has a BA Honours degree from Oxford University in Politics and Economics and a M Phil in Town Planning from University College London.
