Alan Kirkland is the CEO of CHOICE. At the time of his appointment, he was CEO of Legal Aid NSW. As well as being a member of the Council, Alan chairs the Australian Government's National Legal Assistance Advisory Body.
Alan was Chief Executive Officer of Legal Aid NSW from 2008 to 2011 and had previously worked for the Australian Law Reform Commission, the NSW Council of Social Service and the Youth Action and Policy Association.
Alan has a long-term commitment to the non-government sector community welfare sector and was Treasurer of the Australian Council of Social Service from 2003 to 2008 and Chair of the Board of the Welfare Rights Centre, Sydney, from 2003 to 2008. He currently sits in the Board of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre.
Alan has held statutory appointments to the Social Security Appeals Tribunal, the NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal (NSW) and the NSW Sustainability Advisory Council.
Alan has degrees in Arts and Law from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Business Administration (Executive) from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
