Aim of publication

This report provides an operational review of the Information Sharing Protocol (The Protocol) between the Commonwealth and Child Protection Agencies.  The Protocol is an initiative under the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009-2020 (the National Framework).

The review was carried out by the Allen Consulting Group.

This report is for government policy makers, service providers and academics.

What does it cover?

This review:

  • reports on operational aspects such as: processes for information sharing, parties’ compliance with legislative and procedural requirements of the Protocol, differences in usage and approach between States and Territories, communication, training measures and other issues
  • reports on stakeholder views regarding broader child protection outcomes of the protocol
  • makes some suggestions for the way forward to improve the Protocol.
