International participation in disability issues
The Department works with international organisations, including the United Nations, on policy development and research for international disabilities issues
National Disability Awards
International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) was established in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly to promote awareness of disability issues and the abilities of people with disability. It is celebrated worldwide on 3 December each year.
Commonwealth Disability Strategy
The CDS was introduced to assist Australian Government agencies meet their obligations under the (Commonwealth) Disability Discrimination Act (1992).
National Disability Agreement
A new National Disability Agreement between the Australian Government and State and Territory Governments will improve and increase services for people with disability, their families and carers.
Inquiry into a national disability long-term care and support scheme
As part of the National Disability Strategy, the Australian Government has commissioned a feasibility study into a long term care and support scheme for people with disability in Australia.
