Who is the National Gambling Regulator?
The National Gambling Reform Act 2012 (the NGR Act) established the National Gambling Regulator (the Regulator), who monitors, promotes, investigates and enforces compliance with the NGR Act. The Regulator is the Secretary of the Department of Social Services. The Secretary has delegated all of his powers and functions under the NGR Act, except those under s 113, to the Group Manager of the Housing, Homelessness and Gambling Group, Department of Social Services.

Approach to regulation
Initially, the Regulator will be focussing on an educative approach to engaging with regulated entities on compliance. An educative approach seeks to build the capacity of regulated entities to meet their legal obligations, with a focus on working cooperatively with industry to encourage compliance with the legislation.
