Publishing Accommodation Prices on My Aged Care

Since 19 May 2014, residential aged care providers have been required to publish the maximum prices and a description of the key features of their residential aged care accommodation.

The publication of accommodation prices and descriptive information provides greater transparency and supports consumers to make informed choices about their residential aged care accommodation. Prospective residents and their families are now able to compare prices between different rooms and services, and understand what features are included in the prices. It is also an opportunity for providers to promote their aged care services.

Residential aged care providers need to publish their maximum accommodation prices as both refundable deposit and daily payment amounts, and include an example of a combination payment. They must provide a description of the key features of each type of room, and an explanation of residents’ payment options.

This information must be published on the My Aged Care website, providers’ websites (if they have one) and in relevant materials given to prospective residents and their families.

Providers are able to set the accommodation prices for different kinds of rooms, up to a refundable deposit of $550,000 or equivalent daily payment. Publication of accommodation pricing information – Best Practice Guide

Following feedback from providers and industry peak bodies during the initial collection of accommodation pricing information, the Department has developed a Best Practice Guide  to assist providers to understand what accommodation pricing and descriptive information needs to be published. This information will also be useful to providers when publishing their accommodation pricing information on the My Aged Care website, on their own website (if they have one) and in relevant written materials given to prospective residents and their families.

This document sets out the legislative requirements in a series of steps, providing a useful framework to guide providers’ responses, which will help ensure that providers meet their legislative obligations.

Aged Care Provider Portal – Quick Reference Guide

The Department has also developed a Quick Reference Guide to the Accommodation Pricing Information functions of the Aged Care Provider Portal, which has been enhanced to enable Providers to view and update their pricing information on My Aged Care.
