Dementia and Veterans' Supplements
Supplements are available to provide additional financial assistance to Approved Providers in recognition of the additional costs associated with caring for people with dementia and other conditions.
These supplements are:
- the Dementia and Cognition Supplement in Home Care Packages
- the Veterans' Supplement in Home Care Packages
- the Veterans' Supplement in Residential Care.
The Dementia and Severe Behaviours Supplement in residential care has been ceased and will not be paid after 31 July 2014. No care recipient will become eligible for the supplement after 7 July 2014. This effectively means that no care recipient who enters residential care after 30 June 2014 will be eligible for the supplement because an assessment must be conducted more than 7 days after the care recipient entered care.
This change only applies to the Dementia and Severe Behaviours Supplement which operates in residential care. The Dementia and Cognition Supplement which is payable to home care providers will continue to operate.
The Dementia and Veterans' Supplements Eligibility Guidelines
Approved Providers are encouraged to read the Eligibility Guidelines on these supplements, which describe the assessment criteria and application process in detail.
Veterans’ Supplements in Home Care Packages and Residential Aged Care.
Payment of these supplements is automatic if an eligible veteran or their nominated representative has consented to certain information being disclosed by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) to the Department of Human Services (DHS) and their Aged Care provider. There is no need for the Approved Provider to apply or undertake further assessment.
