Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory is the Australian Government’s $3.4 billion investment over ten years to work with Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory to build strong, independent lives, where communities, families and children are safe and healthy.
Of this, funding of $23.6 million is available over 8 years under the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory – Tackling Alcohol Abuse – Community Fund for short term, non-ongoing projects.
The Tackling Alcohol Abuse Community Fund will contribute to the safety of women and children, reduce violence and associated alcohol and substance abuse and promote personal responsibility and community norms.
The Tackling Alcohol Abuse Community Fund will support communities to develop, implement and monitor Alcohol Management Plans. These Plans will increase the community’s ability to reduce alcohol related harm and to make communities safer for women, children and families.
Grant funding will facilitate the delivery of local activities and services specific to a community’s circumstances. These activities will support Aboriginal communities, enabling individual communities to formulate local solutions as part of the Alcohol Management Plan process.
The identification of suitable activities for this grant funding will generally arise during the Alcohol Management Plan development, implementation and monitoring phases and in the support processes between government and the community. These activities will be varied and will:
- be identified by specific Government representatives working with the community and local government as part of these phases;
- support the community by providing for local solutions as part of the Alcohol Management Plan process;
- provide more support for vulnerable women and children and people with alcohol problems; and
- assist in the development of strategies for reducing the supply of, demand for and harm from alcohol in communities.
These guidelines provide the framework for the implementation and administration of the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory Tackling Alcohol Abuse Community Fund.
