Australian Community and Disability Services Ministers endorsed the Second Action Plan 2012-15 of the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009 - 2020 on 17 August 2012.
Building on the success of the First Action Plan 2009-2012, the Second Action Plan will collaborate across all levels of government and the community sector to reduce child abuse and neglect.
Key areas of focus include building stronger partnerships with other sectors such as domestic and family violence, disability and mental health to support vulnerable children and families, as well as continued work to improve outcomes for Indigenous children. The Second Action Plan also emphasises the need for local partnerships to deliver local solutions, recognising that a ‘one size fits all’ approach does not work across Australia’s diverse communities.
The Second Action Plan was developed through close collaboration between the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments, and the non-government sector, through the Coalition of Organisations Committed to the Safety and Wellbeing of Australia’s Children. This partnership approach reflects the National Framework’s key message that ‘protecting children is everyone’s business’. View the Second Action Plan here.
