A new online resource for foster, kinship, grandparent and informal carers is now available on the Family Relationships website. Carers can now find out what financial and non-financial supports they may be eligible for nationally, as well as in each state and territory.
As part of the Improving Support for Carers national priority under the first three year action plan of the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children (2009 ? 2020), the Government commissioned a cross jurisdictional research project to identify gaps and inequities in the current financial and non-financial supports provided to foster, kinship, grandparent and informal carers.
This report, Financial and non-financial supports for formal and informal out-of-home carers, was completed in November 2010.
One finding of the report was that a significant gap exists in carers’ awareness of existing supports and services they could be eligible for. In response, the Government has developed an online resource to improve out-of-home carers’ access to information about the range of supports and services they may be eligible for.
The resource is hosted on the existing Family Relationships website at www.familyrelationships.gov.au/carers and will include information on government and non-government payments, supports and services.
