Quality assurance and disability employment places - continue funding

What's New?

This measure continues funding for the Quality Strategy that ensures people with disabilities receive quality outcomes from disability employment services funded by the Australian Government.

Additional funding will also be provided to enable around 1,000 people with disabilities to continue to be supported while they work in disability employment services.

Background

In June 2002, the Quality Strategy was introduced for disability employment assistance service providers funded under the Disability Services Act 1986. The Quality Strategy has three elements: a quality assurance system, a national complaints mechanism and a continuous improvement strategy. This funding will enable ongoing funding for the complaints resolution and referral service and support continuous improvements in activities that support people with disabilities in employment.

Also in June 2002, as part of the Australians Working Together package, the Government funded 1,000 additional disability employment assistance places. This measure ensures continued funding for the additional places in disability business services that are providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities in rural and remote locations and areas of high demand.

Implementation

1 July 2006.

Total Government Funding

$49.9 million over four years.
