Welfare Reform Consultative Forum - Extension

What's New?

The Government will provide additional funding to extend the Welfare Reform Consultative Forum (the Forum) for a further two years.

The continuation of the Forum will assist the Government to maintain its monitoring of the implementation of the Australians Working Together (AWT) package. The Forum will also support the AWT evaluation (final report due in June 2006) and will ensure that the Government will receive advice from key stakeholders on longer-term reform of the social support system.

Background

The Forum was established in December 2000, in response to the report of the Reference Group on Welfare Reform (the McClure Report). It was set up to ensure further work on welfare reform could continue to be undertaken in partnership with the community and business sectors. The Government is committed to ongoing consultation on any changes to the social support system. This measure ensures that the Australian Government continues to receive input from the community, individuals and organisations.

Implementation

1 July 2004.

Total Government Funding

$1 million over two years.
