Simulating Tax and Welfare Reforms—Launch of the Melbourne Institute Tax and Transfer Simulator (MITTS) model

FaCS, in association with the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, hosted the launch of the Melbourne Institute Tax and Transfer Simulator (MITTS) model on 23 August 2001. MITTS has been developed as a result of a major research partnership, started in 1999, between FaCS and the Melbourne Institute. MITTS is a behavioural microsimulation model of the Australian tax and social security system. It examines the effects of income tax and transfer payments policy changes on individuals and households in Australia, as well as giving a guide to the cost to government of the proposed policy change.
