Fraud and Compliance - detecting incorrect Carer payments

What's New?

The Department of Health and Ageing will provide information to Centrelink about people permanently entering residential aged care. The data will be checked against information on people receiving Carer Payment. This will avoid unintended overpayment to the former carer.

This measure will avoid Carer Payment customers incurring large debts when a person being cared for has permanently entered residential aged care and they have not informed Centrelink of this change in their circumstances.

Background

Research shows that some carers fail to advise Centrelink when a care receiver permanently enters residential aged care. This can result in incorrect payments and potentially large debts.
